Abstract:
This article considers the value and role of biblical expressions in modern linguistics. Biblical expression is a phraseological combinations and aphorisms of biblical origin. It is possible to emphasize phraseological units formed from the names of biblical characters or geographical names, phraseological combinations reflecting realia of the Biblical plot or ancient Judaic History and life, quotations. This article also presents examples containing biblical expressions, taken from literature, as well as the comparative analysis of English biblical expressions and their equivalents in Russian.
